My Go-To Bras After Mastectomy (By Stage of Recovery)

Hi Reader,

One thing I wish I had more guidance on after my mastectomy was bras.

I received very little direction from my medical team, so I figured this out later — through research and trial and error.

Below are 5 bras I recommend most often — and personally wear now — based on stage of recovery, comfort, and activity level.

A quick note: Using my links below gives you 10% off Prairie Wear and 15% off AnaOno.

1. Prairie Wear HuggerPRIMA

Best for: early post-op & swelling support

This is the bra I most often recommend right after mastectomy. It provides consistent compression and a secure, supported feel. It’s especially helpful when swelling is present. Works well with reconstruction and flat closure. This is the bra I wish I had known about right after surgery!

2. Prairie Wear HuggerVIDA

Best for: everyday movement & light activity

This is one of the bras I personally wear now for walking, rucking, errands, and day-to-day movement. It has moderate compression so it's supportive without feeling restrictive.

3. Prairie Wear HuggerLUMA

Best for: workouts & higher-support movement

This is the bra I wear for strength training and higher-intensity workouts when I want to feel secure and confident moving my body.

4. AnaOno Leslie Bra

Best for: radiation & sensitive skin days

Ultra-soft and non-structured — ideal during radiation or on days when compression or seams feel like too much. Works for reconstruction and flat closure. Fits larger, so consider sizing down.

5. AnaOno Monica Bra

Best for: everyday comfort after reconstruction

This is my absolute favorite everyday bra for my reconstructed chest. Soft, comfortable, and non-medical looking — which matters more than most people realize!

I didn’t always have clear answers, and I spent a lot of time trying to understand what may have contributed to my diagnosis, and what I could do to support my health moving forward. These are 5 books that helped me navigate that process in different ways: 1. Radical Remission Explores cases...

Hi Reader, After breast cancer treatment, walking is one of the simplest ways to start moving again.
